About Oliva Cigars: A Legacy of Quality and Tradition

In 1886, Melanio Oliva planted his first tobacco crop in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba. His growing operations were put on hold during the Cuban War of Independence, but he returned to continue cultivating tobacco after the war. In the early 1920s, Melanio’s son Facundo took over the family business and cultivated their fields for decades. As Cuba fell to communism, Facundo’s son Gilberto shifted from growing to brokering tobacco. In search of that distinctive Cuban taste, Gilberto traveled from country to country until he found the perfect conditions for recreating it.
