The Inspiration Behind It All…

“During one of our regular trips up to Connecticut in search of high-quality Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco, we stumbled upon a farm growing an intriguing “Stalk Cut Tobacco” alongside their Broadleaf crop. The farmer called it “American Habano” wrapper leaf. After careful inspection, we were impressed but tried not to show it too much since this beautiful leaf possessed all the color and thickness qualities we had been searching for around the world. Fortunately for us (and you!), the farmer was struggling to sell this experimental tobacco since other buyers didn’t want to invest in such an expensive crop. We took a risk and spent quite a bit on it – but trust us when we say it was worth every penny. And that’s just for the wrapper leaf! Wait until you hear about what’s inside…”

This blend was in development for quite some time as we experimented with a new stalk-cut wrapper since September of 2006. To be honest, this leaf was a pain in the butt and at one point we thought we might have wasted $400k on it. But luckily, that wasn’t the case and the final result is truly phenomenal. We went through seven different variations of the T52 blend, but fate had it that #3 and #4 were the best – even though they differ from our Liga Privada No. 9 #3 and #4 blends (and once again, #4 proved to be stronger). For months, we couldn’t decide between these two blends – even going so far as to put #4 into production before changing our minds yet again – but in the end, we found a balance between them…so officially, Liga Privada T52 is blend number 3.5.”
